Volunteering community support based on a App/Website/Network

Innovative idea!

Create one platform accessible via multiple devices (mobile application and online website) where older adults or their relatives could request help or support for a range of tasks.

Tasks range from help with household tasks (changing a light bulb or helping for a supermarket trip) to spending some time to share a meal/cake/coffee, play a game or read a book.

The momentum for community support exists; the NHS appeal for volunteer during the pandemic was a frank success proving the only real thing missing is a platform for the community support to happen.

Recruitment process and help to build on the learnings  from https://nhsvolunteerresponders.org.uk/i-want-to-volunteer to ensure safety of participants

This is a great idea @Dai Jones. How would you promote this? and do you think it could work in reverse? i.e. do you think there's a safe way for offers of help to be made to target groups?

Thanks @Siana Jones - I think you are making a fair point. The platform should allow if not encourage offers for support.
Regarding promoting the platform you would need to reach to care homes and allow word of mouth to work. Traditional marketing is less likely to work with older generation

I absolutely love the idea. Carers can be costly, plus not everyone wants to have a carer, therefore such platform can be a great way for older people to get support and human interaction. However, I think that there may be some people who may get money or items from the elderly or somehow hurt them. A few are too many. How may we ensure that this does not happen or get prosecuted quickly and efficiently?

Thanks Miroslava I could not agree more, safety is key. Similarly to how the nhs/government recruited volunteers, the background check is a minimum to ensure anyone on the platform offering help is trusted.
You would need a set of strict terms and conditions to exist and be agreed upon too that if broken leads to immediate prosecution for abuse (which in turns leaves trace on background check) . Partnership with charity experienced in protecting elderly and vulnerable people will surely help

I really love the idea of the platform. Please tell us more about this.

What kind of platform should be the most familiar for the older adults? We would love the platform to be inclusive for everyone.

Thanks so much for your idea! Do you think some sort of training on the use of technology will be necessary for this platform? There is limited research on the use of technology among older adults, and I wonder if that will be a barrier to access.

Hi Dai, this is pretty cool!
I do think there's a lot of potential, for this. Also, some background check could be introduced to guarantee the safety (physical and mental) of the older participants. But definitely a good sign, it reminded me of this kind of initiatives:
